Southwest Airlines brings New Opportunity to Branson Despite Anti-Growth Efforts
A well organized welcome ceremony marked the official release of Southwest Airlines initial flight schedule to and from the Branson Airport.
Branson's Airport (BKG) is unique in that it is the only airport in the United States with international capacity that is privately owned.
At the end of the year it is estimated that the airport will have absorbed $60 million in operating losses - an investment gambled with one intention - that Southwest Airlines would enter the market.
Twice a year since taking office Branson's Mayor Raeanne Presley has openly and publicly criticized the airport ensuring regional news outlets distribute a foray of negative publicity in unsuccessful attempts to cripple the airport. While Presley's anti business development agenda proved a thorn in the airport's side the goal of bringing Southwest Airlines to Branson has been reached.
Much of Branson Airport's debts have been incurred to bring the discount airline's business to Branson. A company mirroring Southwest Airlines destinations was financed to prove feasibility of Branson as a profitable destination and scores of meetings were held to negotiate the travel behemoths' services which promises to bring prosperity. A Branson Airline was created for the sole purpose of emulating Soutwest Flight patterns.
Unlike the airport Presley served on the board for, the Branson Airport is not subsidized by tax dollars. In order to receive funds ($8.50 per passenger) Branson is only required to pay when an actual customer is delivered to the area and many months after their financial benefits are reaped. The initial calculations are based on extensive studies conducted on tourism and actual revenue brought per tourist to the area.
Some in Presley's camp fear that a higher demographic will not be as interested in the lesser known entertainment offerings that Branson has to offer.
They fear new business will raise wages and serve as a fiscal detriment to a minority of busines owners that aren't seeking growth nor an expanding demographic. Alas attempts to close Branson to a more prosperous group have been thwarted in one swift move.
The victory is for Branson at large and defeat to those that prefer poverty as a means to capitalize on cheap labor and limited opportunity. And while a more educated and younger crowd will do little for the mayor's private business it promises new opportunity and a new era for Branson.
Branson has been branded as a drive-to destination but the wisdom of leaders, mostly gone from public office, proved prudent as the Branson Convention Center, Branson Landing and Branson Airport have exceeded expectation. The three are interconnected as they are features national event planners need to enhance Branson's offering for a corporate and/or event market.
The Branson Landing and a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) opportunity are the financial means for the Branson Convention Center to stay afloat. An airport able to handle 737's and flight availability from anywhere in the country enhances the Branson offering, and an opportunity for the community to become more prosperous.
The combination of access to a broader population base, facilities to handle conventions and an economic engine (the Branson Landing) which has generated $100,000,000 in annual sales is brimstone to those who profit from poverty and a blessing to members of the community at large.
Branson owes a tremendous thank you to the entrepreneurs who've worked hard and invested their own funds and believe in Branson to a greater degree than the temporary leaders who've gained prosperity through marriage and heir from the true entrepreneurs of Branson's past.

Mike Huckabee defends Todd Akin Scolds Missouri Republican Party
Mike Huckabee delivered heavy reproach of Republican battle ethic describing Todd Akin as being wounded and bleeding on the political battlefield. Following Missouri Netizen's coverage, "Todd Akin - "Legitimate Rape Rarely Causes Pregnancy"" (not due to)over 3,000 articles have been indexed few sparing harsh words for Missouri Republican US Senate contender and current US Congressman.
The deadline came and went on Tuesday for Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin to drop out over an incorrect comment he made about rape. The Republican establishment put unprecedented and intense pressure on Todd to quit, including five current and past Missouri Senators. But in an exclusive interview on my radio show, Akin said he’s “in this race to the end.” He said he admitted he misspoke and that his statement was not accurate, but he’d sincerely apologized. You can listen to the audio from that interview on my website.
The Party’s leaders have for reasons that aren't rational, left him behind on the political battlefield, wounded and bleeding, a casualty of his self-inflicted, but not intentional wound. In a Party that supposedly stands for life, it was tragic to see the carefully orchestrated and systematic attack on a fellow Republican. Not for a moral failure or corruption or a criminal act, but for a misstatement which he contritely and utterly repudiated. I was shocked by GOP leaders and elected officials who rushed so quickly to end the political life of a candidate over a mistaken comment in an interview. This was a serious mistake, but it was blown out of proportion not by the left, but by Akin's own Republican Party. Is this what the party really thinks of principled pro-life advocates? Do we forgive and forget the verbal gaffes of Republicans who are "conveniently pro-life" for political advantage, but crucify one who truly believes that every life is sacred?
Who ordered this "Code Red" on Akin? There were talking point memos sent from the National Republican Senatorial Committee suggesting language to urge Akin to drop out. Political consultants were ordered to stay away from Akin or lose future business with GOP committees. Operatives were recruited to set up a network of pastors to call Akin to urge him to get out. Money has changed hands to push him off the plank. It is disgraceful. From the spotlights of political offices and media perches, it may appear that the demand for Akin’s head is universal in the party. I assure you it is not. There is a vast, but mostly quiet army of people who have an innate sense of fairness and don't like to see a fellow political pilgrim bullied. If Todd Akin loses the Senate seat, I will not blame Todd Akin. He made his mistake, but was man enough to admit it and apologize. I'm waiting for the apology from whoever the genius was on the high pedestals of our party who thought it wise to not only shoot our wounded, but run over him with tanks and trucks and then feed his body to the liberal wolves. It wasn't just Todd Akin that was treated with contempt by the thinly veiled attack on Todd Akin. It was all the people who have faithfully knocked doors, made calls, and made sacrificial contributions to elect Republicans because we thought we were welcome in the party. Todd Akin owned his mistake. Who will step up and admit the effort being made to discredit Akin and apologize for the sleazy way it's been handled?
I’ve always believed and still do, that if you don’t honor your friendships, you don’t honor yourself. And I consider Todd a friend. So I will join Todd as often as I can, in his fight for our Party’s pro-life policies, traditional marriage and our efforts to rein in the massive expansion of government under President Obama. Todd is being systematically scourged for one thing he said. Is that more important than what Claire McCaskill has DONE over her 6 years in the Senate? If you’d like to join the fight, and help defeat a Democrat Senator standing in the way of a conservative majority, I encourage you to join me. The party has decided it won't help. In fact, it has decided that it will try to cut off the supply lines to Akin to pressure him to exit and let the party bosses overturn the voters of Missouri and pick their own candidate. If this can happen to Todd Akin, who is next?
I’ve heard the talk of new deadlines and the nonsense about the Republican Party running a 3rd party candidate, but I am no longer listening to that noise. The idea that our Party would continue to play games behind the scenes and feed the Democrats make-believe narrative of the GOP’s fictional war on women is equally ridiculous. Now is the time to focus on electing a conservative Senate Majority. And if the NRSC and RNC and the money-rich PACS won't help Todd Akin get us to the majority, then we'll do it without them. And his seat will not have been sold to the highest bidder, but obtained by the highest principles.
Taney County Sheriff Warns of Possible Kidnappers
Forsyth, Missouri - Press Release Taney County Sheriff's Office Issued August 17 at 05:00 PM lasting until August 29 at 05:00 PM
August 17 at 05:00 PM lasting until August 29 at 05:00 PM
Posted by: Jimmie Russell on August 17 at 05:28 PM
The Taney County Sheriff’s Office has taken two calls today of possible attempted child abductions.
The first occurred at approx. 1:30 pm. on Norman Road near Kirbyville. A white male and female pulled up to a residence where two children were playing in the yard. The female attempted to lure the children to the vehicle by asking if they had seen her dog. The couple was driving a blue mini van with possibly a black hood.
The second incident occurred at approx. 4:30 pm. on Hulls Ford Road near Taneyville. A child walking on Hulls Ford Road was approached by a female driving a blue mini van with “Rogersville” above the rear license plate. The female asked the child if he had seen her dog and then asked where he was going. When the child said he was going home the female repeatedly tried to get the child to get in the van with her so she could take him to his home. When the child turned and walked away the female in the van left.
If anyone sees a blue mini van with the word “Rogersville” above the rear license plate please contact the Taney County Sheriff’s Office or your local law enforcement agency immediately.

Silver Dollar City Unviels Rollercoaster Opening in 2013- Outlaw Run
Silver Dollar City opened the construction site for a new roller-coaster which will open in 2013. Outlaw run will be the first wood coaster to turn upside down with a 720 degree double barrel role and the second fastest wood roller coaster in the world. See the full press release below.
BRANSON, Mo., Aug. 9, 2012 -- Thrill ride enthusiasts around the world will mark a first-of-its-kind ride debut at Branson, Missouri's Silver Dollar City in Spring 2013 when the 1880s-style theme park makes history with the opening of Outlaw Run, the world's most daring wood coaster. The new $10 million ride sends passengers soaring through the Ozark Mountains on a ground-breaking wood coaster that includes several firsts:
"Our Silver Dollar City fans told us they wanted a new thrill attraction, and we were determined to create a world-class experience even they couldn't imagine," said Brad Thomas, senior vice president, Silver Dollar City Attractions. "We pushed to take the classic wood coaster to a place it's never been before by applying modern technology and techniques to traditional wood coaster building methods. The result is a wood coaster with never-done-before thrill elements." The new ride takes advantage of the natural mountain terrain, with a more than 10-story lift that leads to a 162-foot drop (16 stories) into a valley. Custom-designed "stagecoach" trains take riders on a journey of unexpected drops, thrilling twists and rolling inversions. Riders soar through nine locations where they will experience "airtime" – or weightlessness. The park collaborated with Idaho-based Rocky Mountain Construction on the innovative engineering, design and construction of the new ride. Silver Dollar City, awarded for theme development, designs attractions with compelling storylines based in real history. In the creative concept, Outlaw Run takes passengers aboard a stagecoach west where a wild chase ensues. "All generations will enjoy this bold and daring ride where the 'good guys always win,'" Thomas said. Silver Dollar City, the number one attraction in Branson, Missouri, has 30 rides and attractions, award-winning festivals, and an authentic crafts colony 100-strong.
- World's steepest drop on a wood coaster More than 16 stories, 162-foot drop at 81 degrees, nearly vertical
- World's only wood coaster to twist upside down A record-breaking three inversions including a 720-degree (double) barrel roll
- Second fastest wood coaster in the world Top speed of 68 mph, world's fastest wood coaster on steel wheels
