Minister Leaves Church to Protest Black Rapper Nelly's Branson Appearance(OP-ED Integrated)

Jay Scribner tells Jann Clark of Ozark Mountain Newspapers his decision to quit preaching at the Mansion theater has nothing to do with "music style, race or the new venue being introduced. It has everything to do with environment".

Mr. Scribner appears to know little about Branson's history claiming, "It's established itself through it's long history as a wholesome family oriented place, Everyone needs to do a self evaluation to determine if its healthy and holy for Branson'.

Branson sits four hours from the original capital of the Confederate states (Little Rock, Ark.,) and an hour from the former headquarters of the KKK. For years, a "No Blacks After Dark" sign sat on the railway which goes through downtown Branson and Hollister. This is our history.

Let's not discuss the fact that the Presley's theater, which is owned by Branson's Mayor has never had a black employee (*could've had a token minority in the 60's) or their competitor "The Baldknobbers" has undeniable similarities with their KKK outfits.

Let's not look at the apostle Paul's ministry, after all, he was a murderer prior to being converted to the faith - certainly not the kind of guy we'd want visiting Branson.

Perhaps we should direct Mr. Scribner, former Jesus teacher for cash, back to the Presley's theater where he could analyze the "Liberace style attire" and educate us with a holiness rating telling us if the " homosexually inspired wardrobe" our mayor believes tax subsidies should be used to promote meets his standard of Godliness.

Let's make sure and kick Jim Stafford out of Branson too. After all his ode to marijuana, "Wildwood Weed" couldn't meet the "fictional historical holiness" standard Scribner professes exists in Branson.

While we're limiting free speech, perhaps Mr. Scribner should visit the churches in town and let us know which ones should be shut down. Who knows, a sinner might be attending.

Instread we should evaluate our prejudices, consider what it means to be an American and create a vibrant discussion about holiness, godliness, freedom, liberty and civil rights.

Who knows, if we allow free speech in Branson maybe someone will run for political office without being afraid of what the consequences will be to their private business.

Or better yet, maybe if we let a sinner come to Branson, you might gain a new church member. As my friend John  said:

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. (John 13:34-35)

Jay Scribner's position is respectable. He has the right to make a political statement and pretend to be holy. But, in my opinion it's dishonest.

After all his totally "non-racist" standard of Godliness doesn't seem to apply to the shortcomings of white people nor does it erase a dark history..

Mormon No Longer A Cuss Word in Branson

Mormon Leader Brigham Young's proposal to create a state called Deseret
An article titled "Branson Mormons promote faith by example" was posted last week on the Deseret News website "Mormon. times". Sheila Dutton of the Dutton family noted Darren Romeo by saying "When we first came, we were told that a famous Las Vegas star tried to put on his regular show here. He had to change his act to survive. The people said that they wanted him to clean up his act or stop,"

Jason Hughes said, ""When the Osmonds first came to Branson, the word 'Mormon' was like a cuss word,"  implying discrimination is no longer an issue.

Missouri has a unique history as it is the only state that has created an order allowing and promoting the legal murder of a person for their religous beliefs.

Mormon founder Joseph Smith, aside from being a religous leader was an activist against slavery and preparing for a presidential bid before Governor Bobbs issued an extermination order forcing Mormon leaders to flee north to Navoo, Illinois.

In Navoo, Joseph Smith penned "Views on the Powers and Policies of the United States." The political essay written in 1844 asked for an end to slavery.

The executive order by Governor Boggs was rescinded in 1980 by Missouri Governor and current Senator Kit "Christopher" Bond. Until 1980 it was legal to kill a Mormon in Missouri without consequence.

The document is on display at the "Community of Christ" headquarters in Jackson County, Missouri. The Community of Christ along with other offshoots from Smith's original church are scattered primarily in the Independence area with branches throughout the world. Community of Christ followers distinguish themselves from Mormons acknowledging a split from pioneer Brigham Young who led followers to Salt Lake City after Smiths assassination.

The Community of Christ was established after Joseph Smith's grandson was invited back to Missouri from Navoo abandoning the leadership of Young and his ambitions to move church members west.

Mormons were instrumental in helping the United States battle the Spanish with a batallion stationed in San Diego. It was Young's desire to create a state titled "Deseret" which extended from Utah to Southern California. The proposal was rejected and Utah became a state after Young's death.

Branson most well known entertainer Andy Williams states in his biography that his father asked him to help the Osmond family early in his career. The Osmonds followed Andy Williams lead to Branson where they opened a theater that has since been sold to Clay Cooper.

The Osmonds are still in Branson and will be performing at Music City Center starting in September.

Branson Gospel Music Convention Lineup

The B anson Convention Center is hosting a Gospel Music Convention July 14-17.

During the days of American slavery races would intermingle for worship. African rhythms were integrated into the American worship practices. The melodies allowed verse recitation for those who were illiterate. The tradition of worship continues in some churches to this day.

Love Inc,

Branson - Love Inc., an organization of faith based organizations committed to service. The organization serves as a superministry focusing of the combined power of faith based groups.
The organization met yesterday at the founder and primary contributer Herschend Family Entertainment (HFE), Showboat Branson Belle. Regional churches were invited to send clergy for the collaborative effort of tending to the most needy.
The charge was supported last year through the economic development session allowing churches to participate in grants allocated for economic development. Essentially, faith based groups were allowed to particpate under the same rules and regulations as for-profit-enterprise
This collaborative effort of faith bases groups in the Branson area fed hundreds during the winter with an effort called "loaves and fishes".

The Vultures Holiday Proposal - Opinion

The Pharisees and Saduccees have a great friend in Gary Groman aka "the Vulture" who didn't miss an opportunity two weeks ago to ask the city to force city employees - even non-believers to use God's name in vain by dictate.

In typical Groman fashion, the vulture combines commentary on a holy holiday with references to genitalia in an article published by Ozark Mountain Newspapers entitled, "Will Branson celebrate Christmas or some other neutered politically correct holiday?" He begs:

Would it be inappropriate to ask the city governments of the city of Branson and Hollister, the village of Indian Point, and the Taney County Commission to establish a policy of trying to keep Christmas in Christmas? As a starting point, such a policy could encourage the use of the term Merry Christmas in lieu of Happy Holidays or other things that tend to neuter Christmas in the name of political correctness, in connection with their involvement with Ozark Mountain Christmas or other situations where it is their intent to specifically express Christmas wishes or greetings to those celebrating the holiday of Christmas.

Though we're happy Groman took a break from hijacking elections and being a nuisance to democracy, I have to ask myself, Through public policy, general living conditions for the Branson workforce, treatment of the poor and unrighteous attacks delivered every sabbath would I know these guys were Christians if they didn't tell me? Maybe they should make public declarations about how holy they are - it might be the only way some could tell.

The question is often posed, "What Would Jesus Do? Which is a bad question since there is limited information on how he would have handled public affairs besides "Giving to Ceaser what is Ceasers." A better question to ask should be, "What did Jesus Do?" Today, he'd be celebrating Hanukkah. Of course, including the faith practiced by Jesus who celebrated the holy holiday doesn't fit Groman's plan of exclusion during the holiday season. Neither does mine. I like to call it "happy baby Jesus day" which would be outlawed by the Vultures plan. Guess he wouldn't be hanging out with Jesus this week.

Groman, in typical ethics free fashion boasts he helped draft the plan that will be put before the public monday night.

It's a neutered version of Groman's unholy proposal which is acceptable as long as city council members add inclusionary text reminding the public that worshiping God is ok in Branson even if it doesn't fit a few city council members religion which I understand to be "Christianity Light."

If you haven't read the New Testament a great deal of it is about rich politicians and corrupt reporters (scribes) who used God's name in vain to act godless. Jesus really socked it to em'. They used the church for financial gain and he tore the place apart demanding they restore the holy place of the Jewish faith back to God. In the Old Testament this happens many times when God's chosen gets off track. A prophet comes striking down the practices of community and church leaders who use God's name to worship mammon.

An athiest reporter wrote me earlier this week. I've shared my personal testimony and faith with her before she went on assignment to study the actions of a church. After she contacted a church leader - who spouted off filthy slander - she said, "I know it's not supposed to be this way, but people like me - view Christianity by the way Christians act." Sadly, she had the whole transcript on tape.

If putting down other people's faith - including the faith of Jesus Christ is what Christianity about - I'd rather hang out with good Samaritans.

Fortunately, this isn't what Christianity is about. In fact, being a Christian is nothing to be proud of - it's everything to be humbled by. It means you believe God sent an innocent man who was killed in the most brutal fashion because he loved you before you knew him.

Christians take responsibility for killing Jesus and believe he died for their salvation. Because of this unselfish act the law of the Jews was fulfilled and everyone who accepts the free gift is forever a bond-servant - forgiven by another's unselfish actions - a gift not even physical death can take away. They believe he died for them and take the responsibility for the whippings the beatings - being humiliated and spat on and having to endure immense suffering before death and resurrection. It means becuase of the sacrifice Christians get to be a joint heir in the ancestry of the Jews and are forced to abide by a new commandment - love one another.

What's scary is a citizen of Branson being unable to profess their beliefs in fear of retribution or having to hide their understanding never getting a chance to hear the gospel because they were afraid to speak their heart.

As Americans its important to remember it was the establishment of a Christian Church that Christians came to America to escape from. I'm personally ashamed that financial institutions have killed over differing versions of the gospel that governments killed and still kill because someone had a different understanding of the creator.

I published Mitt Romney's speech earlier this week which I found to be an inspiring perspective on church and state. In the end he closes with this story:

Recall the early days of the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia, during the fall of 1774. With Boston occupied by British troops, there were rumors of imminent hostilities and fears of an impending war. In this time of peril, someone suggested that they pray. But there were objections. 'They were too divided in religious sentiments', what with Episcopalians and Quakers, Anabaptists and Congregationalists, Presbyterians and Catholics.

"Then Sam Adams rose, and said he would hear a prayer from anyone of piety and good character, as long as they were a patriot.
And so together they prayed, and together they fought, and together, by the grace of God ... they founded this great nation.
In that spirit, let us give thanks to the divine 'author of liberty.' And together, let us pray that this land may always be blessed, 'with freedom's holy light.'
God bless the United States of America.

I'm glad the Herschend family makes a statement in their business about celebrating Christmas. Some won't go to Silver Dollar City because of it and some will for the same reason. I'm glad I live in a country where I can worship God instead of a country where the government tells me what version of God I have to bow to.

Perhaps, we should be focused on setting an example on what it means to be Christian instead of pretending we're holy and forcing non-believers to use God's name in vain.

But it's not "Baby Jesus Day" yet, so I'll do what Jesus would do and wish everyone a Happy Hanukkah.

Woodland Hills Donates Blankets for Taney County Jail

Ted Cunningham, Pastor of the Woodland Hills Community Church is in the process of donating 30 blankets on behalf of the congregation to the Taney County Jail. According to an active church member, the jail had a shortage of blankets due to a lack of funds.

Servant Leadership Mr. Meyer and Me

Mr. Meyer, Jory Rolf and I greet each other as Branson Aldermen adjourn and regroup for closed session

Meyer wants to both learn and teach me at the same time. The first concept he wants to teach me is about servant leadership.

He's an interesting and visible enough member of the community that I've taken the time to study him.

Habit 1: Be Proactive:

Bill # 3427 is fresh on my mind. Meyer wants to build Whispering Cove and is smart enough not to annex until the project is completed. He knows where to start the handshake and when to finish it.

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind: Principles of Personal Leadership

By the time we sit down to talk Bill #3427 has passed through first and second readings and recieved the Mayor Presley's approval - sealed with an official stamp and signature.

I know he reads me on a regular basis and recall seeing him while working on a job for a local newspaper. But, I'm not the newspaper man to him; to him I'm the blogger. A blog banned through a no-mention policy in the paper.

He asks for understanding - wants to know what makes me tick - seeing I'm putting the horse before the cart....(I'm working on number 8)

Habit 3: Put First Things First: Principles of Personal Management

I also know Meyer is a man of strong faith with a heart for the poor. In the most basic sense, he's learned the path from poverty to the middle class involves self-realization of the impoverished. The methods posted here illustrate some of his methodologies.

The success of his mission ultimately makes our community stronger.

Habit 4: Think Win/Win: Principles of Interpersonal Leadership

He's asking me questions and tells me why he's asking them.

# Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood: Principles of Empathetic Communication

He says I remind him of Jerry Henry, Branson area guru of statistical anomalies. A great compliment. I study Henry's findings whenever the opportunity arises.

He makes some recommendations based on the principals of servant leadership and tells me how to be a better citizen in the community - signs to look for and pitfalls to avoid.
I take his advice - I forward intel regarding topics to be discussed at the next alderman meeting with cutting edge graphics and data they'll never find by simple digging.

Habit 6: Synergize: Principles of Creative Communication

This is an everyday practice.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw: Principles of Balanced Self-Renewal

The 7 Habits are from the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

The 8th habit, from a book Covey wrote in 1994 From Effectiveness to Greatness
shares this grand nugget of wisdom.

We're in the the Knowledge Worker Age.....The challenges and complexity we face today are of a different order of magnitude. The 8th habit is essentially "Find your voice and inspire others to find theirs...^

Jory Roars - First Ammendment Please

Jory Rolf is the minister who runs Action Impact Ministries (AIM)which he started with his wife in 1998.
At Branson's last two city council meetings Rolf, accompanied by Salvation Army Captain Ron Keys, challenged aldermen on the issue of alcohol and the Branson Landing. Rolf's first challenge regarded the environment of the "town square" and the message given to tourists as patron's mingle with open containers in hand.
After council moved to hire outside counsel and form a citizens committee on alcohol, Rolf challenged Rick Huffman on both moral and first amendment grounds. Rolf begged the question, "is he legally allowed to protest at the Branson Landing?"
What he really wants is for the youngsters he pastors to have the opportunity to minister from the landing stage through song, mime and interpretive dance.
The issue raised by Landing management at one point regarded an interpretation of the World Trade Towers collapsing which ex-Branson Landing manager Linda Antus felt emotionally moved by.
Rolf's ministry includes a large percentage of home-schooled children who commune with other kids their age through church gatherings. Rolf conjured a post which he read in part to Branson's political leadership.
The question raised by Rolf about his right to protest tickled a laugh from Mayor Raeanne Presley.

Comment:
We ask, "How offensive can a mime be?" Will an effort begin to take back Sundays at the waterfront? If Jory were here, he'd want you to read this: <7 Truths>
