Branson Documentary In Development - 417 Magazine Reports

Gregory Holman recently posted an article in 417 magazine regarding a documentary about Branson.

“Two talented friends are spending the summer in Branson working on a documentary,” Chilton wrote, “and based on their subject matter and something I thought I remember reading about your family, I thought they might be a good fit? The film is about two sides of Branson: the stereotypical show-loving USA and God-loving folk, and then those who live in Branson but don’t necessarily fit that mold.”

Gary Groman issues Carpetbagger Report

The man who refers to himself as "The Ole Seagull" is up to his dirty tricks again filing stories that promote his business associates/politicians.

Unfortunately for Groman, the people are beginning to smarten up.

After finally being called out for having never lived in Branson, Groman is reported to be planning a move to a new home within the city limits he so graciously - and continually proposes we should raise taxes in. The Seagull will finally roost in Branson.

Having cashed in on some profitable deals involving businesses who participated in travel club scams, Groman is really rolling in the dough.

The Groman clan's last major deal was a transfer of intellectual and domain assets for political bribery donation expert Larry Milton - the mastermind and owner of time-share solicitation firms Branson.com and BransonTourismCenter.com

The retired government attorney - who has never held a license to practice law in Missouri - reneged on his meritless attack on the Branson Edge last week (plagiarizing content without giving credit in the newspaper)after speaking to his alderman/business associates. Apparently, the public appreciated the "heads-up" issued by Branson's Premeir Online News Source.

Groman's 180 in his opposition to the fine editorial product coming to you live and direct as we speak - comes with a disclaimer prompting the reader to keep in mind that Branson needs much more aggressive ordinances on businesses wishing to carry alcohol. Groman once again supports bigger government with increased spending.

Groman is "Yella"

Keep in mind that this is America and everyone is entitled to their opinion - even if they're flying rats.

Unlike true journalists, Groman's stories are only opinions rendered with the precision a government sophist alone could conjure.

Though Groman's traditional sabbath day attacks are generally aimed at politicians - it would be wise to ask yourself -

Does Groman conceal the identity of Politicians posting under fake names on his family's website?

How much money does Groman take from politicians who have/are or currently serving in government positions?

One thing is for sure, Gary Groman showed his true colors last week - "Yella" when he took the King Presley approach to public dialogue and "Refused to Debate" in a public forum.

The government employee - turned government watchdog - turned government lapdog - flew in fear as management threatened to share a voice more in tune with the people and less with Groman's financial interests.

Anonymous sources report Groman took a stroll to his old employers office in fear he'd have to stand against reporter and Chief Branson Missouri Typist" Darin Codon.

---

"I wish he wouldn't feel like he'd have to starve my children," said Codon who promised to end the story with three nice things about Groman.

"It's hard to find people that are willing to openly support limiting social freedoms and liberal fiscal policies. Not everyone can endorse higher taxes and wasteful spending with such grace"

"He really married up, he was smart enough to find a wife with editorial skills and a conscience"

Branson Media Practices and Policies - 10 year View - Commentary

Ten years ago a new newspaper began developing traction in Branson. The Branson Daily Independent blew the lid off the constitutionality of Branson's tourism tax. The wild discussion was credited with tearing the community apart.

Perhaps, the organization shed light which helped challenges the community was facing come to the surface. Branson's tourism tax has been restored in addition to a new tax allocating tourism promotion funding to record levels.

In between that time a movement emerged - the Branson Believers formed. Without discussing all the intricacies and benefits, the movement generated a series of programs with the intent of helping "us" - "we" - effectively develop the type of community we want to live in. The new deal - the formation of Branson Believers installed a "not so secret" relationship between the press, the Branson Chamber of Commerce and regional patriarchs.

The self-perpetuating cause identifies and defines the next series of leaders through these programs. As we seat our new set of Branson Alderman, the dialogue has shifted. The intermingling of religious principles in Branson's civic life has been a constant factor in creating regional legislation. Principal centered leadership represents a positive movement and the church plays an important role - a primary role in Southwest Missouri civic life but sometimes conflicts with the the primary goal of political institutions whose scope is limited.

During electioneering for Branson's Alderman positions, I noticed an unbelievable arrogance and a firm statement, "No you can't." This year I've heard it from the Branson Chamber of Commerce and I've listened to local media outlets whisper it.

In politics, a whisper is a shout. Debates and interviews give candidates an opportunity to sound off against their detractors. This is initiation to the game - bypassed during April's election and marked with low voter turnout.

In December, I rejected an invitation to watch football with Mitt Romney in order to meet candidates vying for Branson's new alderman position. A few decided I was undeserving of a return call. I heard a strong message, "You're unimportant, you don't count." With it, I lost a great deal of respect - not just from people - but the local media institution itself.

The worst tragedy is my personal lost of self-respect for holding esteem where none was due - leaders more interested in self-preservation than community values. In retrospect, I understand the regional media institutions have a major role in why a politico can treat a member of its constituency in such a manner and avoid the democratic process .It's the press that enables it - While some people.families/politicians are openly criticized, others have a free pass to rob the city coffers with special interests openly - and through this system new monarchs are installed.

Being a Branson Believer isn't an excuse for arrogance, neither should it be a shield for government leaders and candidates to avoid expressing their agendas or act disrespectfully - to bypass the American Political Process. It's not an excuse for media outlets to act irresponsibly.

The Branson Daily News will regress from Political Coverage for the season as is their usual cycle. The Branson Daily Independent has to find a new arch-enemy as they have successfully planted an establishment whose fiscal policies remain unexamined.

And if the Branson Chamber of Commerce has changed from a private organization established to help its members, to a regional marketing entity spending tax dollars to promote the community - scrutiny should be mandatory.

In my opinion, this organizational structure of the Branson Chamber and Convention Visitors Bureau needs to be examined and continues to be an organization which acts like a membership telling some members of the community - "no you can't and some, whatever you like."

As we follow the money, it's easy to see. As we watch the Branson Chamber committees it's easy to see. As we watch new appointments of high paying positions soaking off public funds - it's easy to see. As we read the campaign financing documents - it's easy to see.

It's easy to see we've allowed a few people to become so arrogant that they feel entitled to determine who eats and who doesn't. They feel entitled to utilize tax dollars to finance their personal business ventures. They feel entitled to say, "No you can't."

Branson's new Board of Alderman doesn't have a choice. As elected politicians they no longer have the right to remain silent, to avoid scrutiny to violate the basic principles that enable public discourse. They will make an oath with the people tonight.

Quick Story:
A major campaign financier in Branson's last election attends a church in Branson. The church, known for it's great wealth holds this family with great pride. Another family, not so well known, decided they needed some "old fashion religion" to their lives.
A decade ago, on Sunday morning they went to church and found only one bench open. After the family sat they noticed the congregation was staring at them - scowling. Baffled and a little embarrassed they found themselves perplexed by the anger they were sensing - they didn't know what to do - or what faux pax they'd committed that the congregation was so focused on.
Finally, someone whispered, "You're in __________ family seat, they always sit there."
The visiting family immediately left the church where they felt unwelcomed and haven't returned to church a decade later.

Tonight, at Branson City Hall, we'll honor a passing group of leaders and honor new alderman.

In my opinion, the way it was won lacked class and style and I'm seeing Branson's political plot shifting to a legacy of lesson - rather than example where they've drastically fallen short.

Being "Politically Aware" for some time; I've watched politicians come and go, alliances change, allegiances altered - party affiliation change and money flow from the left to the right - back to the left again.

Just to put criticism into perspective - Our mayor is a good leader and the Chamber of Commerce has been a catalyst for Branson's unique and prosperous economy. Their contributions shouldn't be underestimated as they've demonstrated exceptional work. Still, this shouldn't exclude them from scrutiny. Still, they aren't the golden idol an irresponsible press is penning and deserve to be challenged for the sake of all of our futures.

A right of passage will happen tonight. Cris Bohinc and Rick Davis will swear allegiance to the Constitution of Missouri. As I record this event, as I have with politicians past, a new voice will emerge.

It screams, yes you have, yes you can, yes you will. It says, there is an unstoppable force which isn't the result of excessive political inbreeding. It says, "We the People...", meaning all of us.

Unlike the church which lobbyists formed, another shout will emerge. The voice screams, "Every last one of us."

Yes, It takes every last one of us - hear it - believe it.

How to be on TV if you're a blogger

The title of this post should be "How not to be on TV" and if it was - I starred in it last week.

The television show stared me last week. The amount of hate mail I've received regarding my appearance with Rob Evans is astounding. He has either a huge fan base or I have a lot of ex-girlfriends reading this week.

Here's some rules:

1. Listen to your host and enjoy yourself. TV spots are short. The time restraints for television stations is small. It takes a team of highly skilled managers and technical talent to execute a television program. Each member has to execute routines in very short intervals for a successful program.
In relation to news, The text of one Broadsheet Page (like the Wall Street Journal) has more text than the transcript of an hour long television show.
A completed television news package could last from 15 seconds to 3 minutes.

2. On the camera side, photogs and graphic designers have to change shots every 2 - 5 seconds.

3. The weatherman's job is harder than you think. Having to effectively navigate the green screen takes coordination and choreography.

4. The television news director's job is more similiar to radio than a newspaper newsroom. The networks syndicate a majority of packages which are pre-ordained. Radios and Scanners going off in the background. Sound is everywhere and in the newsroom as KSFX/KOLR which produces the website Ozarks First, there is a lot of multi-tasking. I can't imagine there is ever a dull day.

5. When you're on the air: Listen to the host and have a good time. The Broadcaster giving you an interview wants to deliver news in an entertaining way. Listen to him. He's trying to have a conversation not an interview. Think topical, brief but not short and curt. It's his audience and his show and he wants the production to be good. There is a sideshow and multiple questions he's having to follow.
You don't want to know the stress he's under when you're live-on-the-air. It's a sure way to choke. Belive me, I'm living proof. (Lastly, if the cameraman is doing jumping jacks - that isn't a good thing)

6. Never drive to the television station with an ex unless you want to learn the inefficiencies of public transportation and publically respond to tremendous pressure. Particularly if doesn't put you in a good mood beforehand.

7. Help other people. A network is only as strong as the weakest link. The strongest networks have no central point of failure.

8. Become a resource and helping the press, a community of interest and those wishing to generate it. Provide content and news they can use. As you make it easier for news directors to acquire information, you're adding value.

9. Publish frequently and keep it real.

10. Don't wear a cap with a beer logo on it. You might lose a ten dollar bet, but isn't your dignity worth more?

KY3's David Catanese in Iowa (Video) - "Blogging is better than television"

(The above clip is of Springfield's local NBC affiliate KY3 Political Correspondent David Catanese and his personal photog in Des Moines, Iowa Caucus Headquarters. Filmed by Darin Codon 2 hours before caucusing was scheduled to begin.)
Between an interview with Governor Blunt and Barrack Obams'a campaign manager I grabbed the footage you can view by clicking on the arrow above.
Due to the fact Catanese is from Southwest Missouri and has extensive firsthand knowledge of Mike Huckabee, it's likely NBC will send him on the road to cover more of the caucus.
On New Year's Eve, while I was filming Huckabee make his first attempt at playing "Hard Day's Night" on the bass, Catanese attended "Raucus before the Caucus". The event was sponsored by the Iowan Republican and Democratic parties. A buffet and open bar was provided for members of the media at the low cost of $25. Towards the end of the video we tease Catanese about the event. We have no reason to believe Catanese partook of an alcoholic beverage.
Media ethics and guidelines news organizations force journalists to adhere to was a storyline followed while witnessing the political process firsthand.
Catanese did a great job covering the event and led the AP video wire when final analysis was needed after Iowa Caucus results were tallied.
When I first met Catanese a couple years ago, he was shocked when I told him that I didn't watch television and preached the gospel of the wonders of the boob tube. In Iowa he conceded, "Blogging is Better".
In addition to corresponding for KY3 Catanese manages a blog titled Political Notebook.

Branson Mayor Raeanne Presley - Impressions of the Branson Media

You know Darin I haven’t met that many reporters yet. Michelle Sherwood was friendly and asked good questions today – also looking for other stories to cover in the future. Seemed to recognize that KY3 had not followed many of the Branson issues very closely.

Locally you win the award for being everywhere at once. Never satisfied with the standard line – a lot like me. (Branson Edge)

I like Vonda’s angles based on her many years of living in Branson. She understands the personalities of the Ozarks. Gary G knows how to rally the troops and bring emotion to an otherwise fact based story and John L uses humor to bring to light complex issues.

Brandon is just the facts kind of guy – but pays attention to detail. (Brandon Cone of the Branson Daily News)

Anyone else I’ve missed? Greg Brock and Sally are also always around, but I seldom actually do an interview with them. Great radio voices! (Greg Brock and Sally Kaucher work for KRZK)

Katherine Buckstaff has been the face of Springfield for so long – and so she’s able to gauge which stories have traction and which don’t.

Proposition A Lobbyist Files

The photos above are of the document citizens have to sign to receive information from the Taney County Clerks office regarding election financing and lobbying contributions. The other photos are part of the files I acquired while studying the lobbying efforts of those who supported the effort to raise $90 million dollars for the Taney County "department of fun and games."
Two reporters unrepentantly violated the Professional Journalists Code of Ethics in hopes a large percentage of money would be funneled into their own pockets through an organization they control through seats on the board.
We begged Gannet's Springfield News-Leader to cover the story to avoid the fallout eminent with a battle against corruption. The News-Leader abandoned the citizens of Taney County by refusing to cover the story.
Armed with our massive web presence, we took the reins to empower the citizens of Taney County with the information they need to remain free and self governed.
It cost us greatly. We battled corrupt reporters. We battled massive financial and political powers. We battled against a misinformation campaign and we battled for the good people who are already taxed enough and deserve a responsible government for the people. The people responded to our battle call and for the first time a tax the newspaper supported failed.
Victory is ours and we hand it to all the citizens of Taney County and the residents of Branson who deserve open, honest government and a press with at least a minimal standard of integrity. They have chosen to disregard the standard of ethics legitimate organizations adhere to thus Branson Mediagate continues....

Branson Missouri Government - Power Perspective - Opinion

In a city council planning session Mayor Raeanne Presley stated, we
don't have as much power as you think.
The most frustrating element of being a citizen is that people don't
understand the strength, compassion and desire of other members of the
community. A business owner told me the other day that Branson City
Council doesn't care about him, his ideas and opinions. It really
bothered me for two reasons. The first is that he has invested over 2
million into the Branson economy this year and brings with him
experience and good ideas. The second is that he didn't give Branson
Board of Alderman a chance to communicate or prove they care. Though I
may disagree with actions taken by the city government, I believe they
care about the community and want to lead with the citizens interests
in mind. How can they prove their worth if this business owner didn't
take the time to get involved?

The context of my discussion with the Mayor and board on November 20th
during a city planning session was over charitable works on private
property. I expressed frustration because I believe more can be done
to make the community a better place to live and whats lacking is a
communication gap. The Branson Board has taken many steps to close the
gap between Branson's legislature and the public in order to alter
perception. Still, a gap exists. How do we close it so we can create a
better culture for ourselves and our families?

In the two circumstances above I physically acted to close the gap. I
took the time to connect the disconnected parties. It took a lot of
time, however the results were fruitful - the business's felt
empowered and connected and the ability for charities to collect funds
was increased.

The representative democracy of our local government is extremely
powerful individually and collectively. The officials are elected by
the people which means they are authorized, encouraged and appointed
to do the will of the people. The body itself is "fascist." Though
this word has been twisted to mean something other than what it stands
for - the term comes from the "fasces". The picture above is of the
fasces hanging at the capitol. It's origin is Roman. It's a bundle of
sticks tied together with an axe. A stick is easily broken but a
bundle is hard to break. The axe is a weapon - ie defense. The sticks
and axe together are a symbol used to describe our representative
democracy - for the common defense.

Each member of the board has incredible power - perhaps, far beyond
their understanding. Together - their will is done by dictate -
whatever they vote on becomes law. Individually, they have lobbying
power - they have the power to ask the community to help with a cause
and the power they have as a child of a creator.
Taking a few hours to look into and explore my ability to help was an
empowering experience. In the future, I'm going to use the power of my
web presence to communicate my message.
Part of the news writers job is to communicate what the government is
doing thereby enabling them to do their job. I try to take this a step
further by letting Branson citizens gain a better understanding on how
to access their government so they can understand the power they have
as citizens. It's far beyond what most people think.

Corpus Delicti

The concept of Corpus Delicti should provide the "master dialogue" for what is reported in the media.

Black's Law Dictionary (6th ed.) defines Corpus Delicti as "body of crime". In the American Legal System admission of guilt is not evidence enough to prosecute the person that admitted guilt. In other words if I confess to a judge on my blog that I've committed a crime he cannot convict me unless he can prove my guilt through another source.

On this blog I've accused the Branson Media of participating in what could be consdidered "criminal or psuedo criminal" activity. To me, the journalism community is a group of friends and colleagues. In some cases, such as my correspondence on Branson Mediagate, I refrain from producing the "body of crime." I've refrained from producing the body of crime in hopes they will "convict themselves."

Usually, due to my reputation, mission and ruthless pursuit of truth I don't have to elaborate in detail backing up everything I report. Can I produce "corpus delecti" - of course. Raw video is the best and purest way of proving the reporters presence at an event. Of course, video can be altered, thus a film of a crime in action cannot be submitted to a jury unless it can be verified.

The City of Branson sued three merchants a few years agofor cutting down a tree without city approval . During discovery, a legal process where attorneys exchange information that will be submitted to the court a video of the tree massacre was presented to Branson's attorney. The city attorney attempted to submit the video of the crime into evidence during the trial to Tony Williams an associate judge in the 38th circuit.

In order for the video to be presented to the judge it had to be verified. Unfortunately for the city of Branson all three sisters were being sued. A premise of the American legal system is that a person accused of a crime is not required to testify against themselves. Outside of the three sisters being accused, the city of Branson didn't have any witnesses to authenticate the video. As a result, the three sisters were found innocent after presentation of state evidence.

They were set free becuase the state couldn't establish corpus delecti. No harm no foul. The city couldn't prove that a crime had been committed.

**********Commentary*************
The massacre of the tree in downtown Branson was a setup planned with political pundit Gary Groman which in future posts we will refer to as "the vulture." There is good reason to believe that "the vulture" helped stage the destruction of the tree.
The city of Branson was too aggressive in trying to prosecute the entrepreneurs.
If the city expunged the record (erased the record that a crime had ever been committed) and required the business owners to pay a fine the trial never would have occurred.
The city's arrogance forced tax payers to fork out thousands of dollars in legal fees (ie legal counsel's time)to pursue their case. The sisters only wanted to clear their name and keep their criminal record clean. One of the sisters was going to law school and didn't want the mark to keep her from good standing with the Missouri Bar.
The city of Branson forced Gary Groman out of the courtroom during trial. The move was a vindictive manueaver punishing "the vulture" for several unsubstantiated, biased and unfair attacks against the city manager in the newspaper. The city told Judge Tony Willams that they may call him to testify as a witness.
The city never intended to call "the vulture" as a witness - the move was made purely to attack him. The report ended up being a gift from the city of Branson to me - afterall - as they only reporter in the courtroom - I had an exclusive which was reported on this website. Ironically, if "the vulture" was called as a witness the three sisters might have been successfully prosecuted. The vultures attendance was a dangerous taunt which could have resulted in the sisters conviction. The city lost becuase they were grossly unprepared.
In the Christian tradition Corpus Delicti is a fundamental precept. Because the body of Jesus Christ could not be found the Roman soldiers that killed him can not be found guilty. No body - no crime.
According to Christians who killed Jesus Christ? The answer to Christians is everyone. The innocent was sacrificed for the guilty - the guilty being everyone that falls short of perfection. As a result, Christians claim to be joint participants in the crucification. They admit they killed their "Saviour" through their actions - that he couldn't be killed in the worldly sense and that they can be forgiven - the record taken away by asking for forgiveness. They believe their records are cleaned through the ultimate sacrifice. They can't show the body so they can't prove their case - they can only believe (ie have faith) such an incident ever occurred.
The two posts below are treatments for a book I'm currently authoring. Luckily, becuase of the legal concept of corpus delecti - I can admit to a crime without being convicted in a court of law.
In the political system past drug use is a dying theme. In Barrack Obama's book (page 72 I believe), Obama admits to having smoked marijuana and ingesting cocaine. Because he came clean the public hasn't convicted him. When George Bush was asked "Did you snort coke?" he said , "I haven't used drugs since ......" Bill Clinton said he never inhaled. Becuase Clinton didn't come clean the public embarrassed him with the topic throughout his administration repeating the statement "He never inhaled."
The Vulture tried to attack me by challenging the precept of truth as recorded in this blog. He was wrong. When I proved he was wrong he erased the record of what he wrote. The stain isn't yet "rubbed out" and we challenge him to restore the record; however, we'd prefer he study Journalistic ethics. We forgive him because the concept of Journalistic integrity is foreign to "the vulture".
The Master Dialogue for a journalist should be "ruthless pursuit of truth". If I'm biased, it is becuase I love the truth more than my own selfish desires. As a journalist in Branson this makes me feel very lonely.

Do not Pass Go - Do not get the opportunity to defend your honor

Gary Groman, the most visible writer in the region slandered me in his online newspaper while I was imprisoned for failing to appear before the 38th circuit. My response is posted below. He calls himself the Ole Seagull - a bird that poops on people while they're eating lunch. An Old Seagull has especially good aim.

So there I was chillin’ with the governor (my yearlong goal) hours before I’d be taken away by order of the 38th circuit court.

Before honor comes humility and blatant disregard for a requested presence with a 38th Circuit Judge can land you in a place a Tijuana jailer would be ashamed of. Thus my lack of posts on my blog the last couple of weeks.

They say a good man gets knocked down six times and rises seven.

For now, I'm very tired having walked from the cliffs of Hollister - across the Taneycomo Bridge - to the landing - the length of 76 boulevard - then Green Mountain Drive to Pointe Royal where I met with Kid Future, Gary Groman and Branson’s Mayor.

I began walking at 4:30 AM this morning and arrived at 7:00 AM just in time to have coffee with Gary Groman the Ole Seagull (a local political pundit) and the Mayor.

I go to great lengths seeking truth- pay everything I have to get it – sell it for no price and share it freely.

I'm grateful to have the opportunity to respond and defend my honor after Gary Groman – the Ole Seagull – “Champion of Higher Taxes” took the opportunity while I was knocked down to lay an aggressive assault on my character. I'm equally grateful to have friends - many of you - who told me of this post.

As practice, I make myself visible both in the community and on-line. I maintain accountability for what I write and use a singular handle. I have never hid from correction and post criticism on my websites as long as appropriate language is used – especially if the author discloses their identity. I give even my enemies a voice.

Thank you citizens of Taney County for wisely casting your vote on Proposition A. Some really good creative energy that those trying to pass the tax invested will not be wasted. I personally believe that refinement of some interesting ideas proposed (though not in the proper manner) through work sessions could benefit the community. In this, I include ideas submitted in work sessions involving Vonda Sheets, a reporter for Ozark Mountain Newspapers and Donna Clevenger who coresponds for the Branson Daily News.

I strongly objected to the tax. Branson’s official city minutes read:

“Darin Codon, P.O. Box 2065, Branson, Missouri, stated he has been following this county tax
proposal and he feels there are some major issues in this county that need to be addressed. He said
this special interest tax upsets him because he knows there are a limited amount of funds and the levy
can not continue to be put on the backs of the people. He said the transportation aspect was needed
and was a good aspect to the proposal but Proposition A as a whole (sic)provides little or no economic value to the county. He also
added there are some very serious problems in the community that needs to be looked at that could
destroy the tourist economy and one of them is the Meth problem. He said he has looked at some stats
which show us as number one in the region. He said this is the wrong tax, at the wrong time. “

(Proposition A was inserted to avoid confusion)

Vonda Sheets and Donna Clevenger were negotiating for the tax as a representative of a private psuedo-government entity called the White River Valley Historical Society. It evolved through a multi-month process. I called it snake oil reporting – again I elaborate on this website lengthily and hold a great grudge against the Springfield Newsleader for giving the issue no coverage.

I have accused them of simultaneously lobbying for money and writing for the paper promoting the Tax. It’s my belief that citizens weren’t getting a fair shake nor were their actions helping us remain “free and self governed.” I believe the public deserved better and that Sheets and Clevenger should adhere to the basic standards prescribed by the Professional Journalism Society’s Code of Ethics - especially when they're being published on the front page of the newspaper.

I frequently discuss this concern and try to practice it. I’m not perfect, but seek perfection and see reporting as an awesome responsibility – I take this very seriously and the part of the code which demands we fulfill a moral obligation by calling out infractions when the code of ethics are violated. I hated writing it, but after a month of what I have labeled misrepresentative reporting I didn’t feel I had another choice.

A discouraging post was created by Vonda Sheets (she didn't publish her name directly hiding behind an alias “SheIsIndependent.”

I've written extensively on the topic which I dubbed Branson Mediagate.

To summate: There is universally accepted journalistic code of ethics (Society of Professional Journalists Elaborates) the community expects from reporters – Below are links to adaptations by three different media outlets. Al Jezeera adopted the most lenient guidelines with the minimum standards.

The idea is that you want your reporters to be interested in telling you the truth and not beholden to any other interest - a violation of this standard will get you fired from any major publication. It seems to me – from firsthand experience - in Branson, following it could get you fired. How sad for the citizens.

Gary very elegantly asked a question to the public begging “Did Darin Codon lie about the old Seagull.” Of course, I did not. It’s not uncommon for Gary Groman to edit and delete sections of writers posts so I’ve opted to place this article here – the only way I can be assured my work will be maintained with integrity.

Let’s look shall we?

“Groman had the audacity to ask me if I thought corruption was involved with the creation of the tax - to which I answer patently, thoroughly, by definition.”

(In the article the dictionary definition of corruption is posted)

Did Groman ask the question? If he did I’m innocent. If Gary didn’t I have an error which deserves correction.

Proposition A - was created for and by the corrupt. (Darin Codon)

Gary Groman responded, “Wish it had been handled differently but isn't that a bit strong?)

This is what he wrote after I posted 14 articles elaborating on the activities of Sheets and Clevenger. Since Gary Groman published articles citing terms posted on this website we can assume Groman reads this site (though he doesn't always site his source - we're glad to help Gary so he can better serve the public)
Next…..

I stated, "Groman wants us to ignore the corrupt and underhanded methods used to illicit public support for a tax levy created by and for special interests and ignoring Taney Counties most needy."

Gary elaborates on the issue in a previous article citing “appearance created” in a 13 point endorsement of an economic development tax in Taney County. http://www.bransoncourier.com/editorials/ole_seagull_economic_development_tax_branson_-815.html

My assumption is based off the statement “he would recommend ignoring what has happened up to this point.” I assumed Gary Groman was stating “he recommends ignoring (insert whatever gave an “appearance” of something shady) We’re assuming Gary means “appearance” of something that wasn’t right and that we should trust the commissioners --- because……(he didn't insert a reason).”

I believe the official record is very clear in what I mean when I say “most needy” and the lengthy posts on Proposition A as covered in the 14 article series called Branson Mediagate clearly elaborate on my position.

We have serious issues and it’s my belief that we need to fund the “Departments of Saving Lives” before the “Department of Fun and Games” The citizens apparently agreed and while some tax proposals passed on Nov. 6th Proposition A was not.

I understand Gary’s anger. I called him out for taking a hard left turn relating to his stance on taxes. I called him out on several counts and have a couple major concerns which will be addressed shortly. Unfortunately, Gary's website at times seems like more of a dictatorship than a democracy. Gary reserves the right to edit posts and break rules at will for his own purposes whenever he sees fit.

I would encourage readers to follow the timeline of my posts on Proposition A (bransonmissouri.blogspot.com) and the verbiage entered into the dialogue regarding Proposition A by Gary Groman.

I would encourage Gary to read the Professional Journalist Code of Ethics and more importantly encourage Gary to promote the standards and encourage others to do the same.

I acted slowly – not quick to anger - hoping the journalists covering the issue of a new tax levy would change their ways and disclose their participation in creating the tax long before any names were mentioned.

It seemed the temptation to endorse the tax was greater than the responsibility of educating the public about it. This is my opinion and a slew of stories published by Ozark Mountain Newspapers (not published here) gives great clarity to the motivation behind the journalists addressing the topic.

As officers of an organization lobbying for tax funds disclosure should have been given as a minimum instead of speaking about an organization they control as if it were a third party they have no affiliation with.

It would be fair to assume that the writer isn’t benefiting directly by having their hobby financed on the tax payer dime. Don’t the citizens deserve that?

Proposition A is the first issue I’ve ever taken a stance on. I felt obligated to say something even though it wasn’t popular and could cause me great harm. I hated having to attack the powerful and oppressive press in Taney County , but I did it because I felt it was the right thing to do. I had a moral obligation. As you can see from my posts I feared the "corruption tax" would pass because due to an uninformed public and

Ordinarily, I like to cut out windows for the public to view their government – (elected for and by them). But the best I could do in this case was create a reflection.

Of course it harmed me- read the posts on this site, I had to take on a band of multi-millionaire politicos in an incestuous political community. Do you think I wanted the nightmare of the repercussions ? Do you think I wanted to criticize individuals far more powerful than myself?

I hope my writing has given perspective, increased awareness and provoked thought. I hope I will be remembered as one who took the cause of the helpless; - who stood up for what he believed was right even when bullies tried to terrorize him.

After I pass – in my professional life – I hope to be viewed as a Government Watchdog instead of a Government Lapdog. I hope I can stand up as someone who was fair and told both sides of the story.

After many many warnings to the journalists I accused of violated the code of ethics - I came out…..and came hard against Proposition A. I believe the information I shared helped Gary Groman – the ole seagull - compile material while he was writing for the paper. I believe I did.

With Proposition A, a one side of the story was being told repeatedly in two publications – one of which Gary – “gains his silver from”.

I took the other side to try and balance out the dialogue. I went hard – maybe too hard.

The newspaper’s stance on taxes has been followed by voters in several of our last elections.

Gary Groman’s endorsements for public office were also followed…repeatedly. A politician once asked me – “Do you think it’s possible to beat Gary Groman in an election?”

How sad.

I believe there are two sides to most stories when conflict is involved and taxes are always categorized as a conflict issue. Citizens can only be taxed so much and when taxes are allocated the governments priorities are solidified. It’s like a game of Jinga – you can only pull so many pieces out of a free market economy before it collapses.

I believe we need to consider the least of our citizens first – before special interests.

It seemed to me, after a dozen articles were posted by area publications – without disclosure of the journalist’s direct affiliation with an entity benefiting from the tax – great damage was done. It’s disrespectful in the most heinous way to the process of democracy and the expectation of the public. I believe this with all my heart.

I went to jail a couple weeks ago for missing appointments with a judge. I confided that I had missed the appointment with an attorney. The same attorney alerted Groman, perhaps to gain favor when he looked at the court docket and found I was incarcerated for failure to appear.

I believe, in America, a man/woman has the right to a trial before he/she is convicted. The thread assumes I’m guilty; though my plea before the judge is one of innocence.

Back to ethics. Can someone here cite the Associated Press recommendations for handling a divorce? It’s pretty clear.

A woman posts above that ” I’ve paid a debt”. By reading the ramblings of Gary’s lapdogs, one would assume that I’m guilty of a crime. What crime was I convicted of?

Perhaps, an attorney among us can clarify the difference between being accused and convicted and elaborate which category my case falls into.

Thank God we live in country where one is tried before convicted – it’s drafted by our forefathers into the constitution. It’s pretty important for a darn good reason.

Psst…Gary, which “crafter of words” which Taney County reporter understands the Missouri court system best?

Vonda Sheets – a newspaper reporter - found great joy in my incarceration for failing to appear and wished that I had spent more time in a place where I watched a man beaten for a sandwich. Hmmm. I’m sorry you feel that way Vonda but am happy I could bring some joy to you in your life.

To Vonda Sheets:

More importantly Vonda, I hope you consider the importance of your work as a journalist as a historian and as a participant in democracy. There is no greater role you have than giving us the information we need to be free and self governed. You have additional responsibilities as a custodian of fact and to disclose your affiliations. If you fall short, I’ll be there to make sure the work is done to the best of my ability. Our future depends on it.

As God as my witness, I never wanted to battle one as powerful as you. In the confines of the newspaper offices, I learned of your wrath well. I learned what it meant to be assigned to a position you once held and just how cruel you and your friends could be. I only won that spot because I worked harder, was fairer to public officials and was bolder in my pursuit of truth.

May democracy win.

I could be wrong – perhaps like the sign said over the Taneycomo bridge (the sign falsely represented the tax proposal might “build a bridge” – the printed slogan though the crafters of the tax designed the proposal in such a way that no fiscal responsibility to build a bridge was entailed.

I figure after 100 stories published through 6 media outlets that I’ve earned the right to call myself a journalist – Gary challenges the notion. If I’m not, I hope those greater than I can teach me what journalism is. I’m ready and willing to listen.

To Gary:
You’re a great writer Gary, I hope I’ve inspired passion in you. Vonda, you too are an extremely talented wordsmith and may your liberal sprinklings remain a joy to the downtrodden.

For the rest of you, I hope the three years I’ve posted video, pictures and editorial have benefited and/or enlightened you in some way. At least, I hope I’ve entertained you.

May freedom endure and the prison walls that contain us both seen and unseen be shattered.

Springfield Business Journal - Book of Lists

You can't believe everything you read on the Internets, but we pride ourselves on holding to a higher standard than Southwest Missouri print publications.
The Springfield Business Journal's opt-in is a good deal for business. Though it evades the boundaries of the Journalistic Code of Ethics (pay for play opt-ins are shunned) the book itself is a fascinating read.
It provides the In's and Out's of Southwest Missouri Businesses and is the regions foremost business intelligence tools.
For my media clients, I'd rate the 2,000 dollar inclusion investment as a strong buy.
Though the Springfield Business Journal is more gossip than news the annual book of lists is a jewel of cold hard business facts.

Taney County Proposition A - Is a lawsuit imminent?

Contrary to popular belief, lawyers are used for negotiation not winning, but the deceptive tactics, fraudulent advertising and loose language might put a barrier between an open $90 million dollar check county officials will receive if Proposition A pases.

Lobbyists working for two Branson newspapers were present at meetings where deceptive language was chosen to push for a new sales tax in Taney County. The tagline "Build a Bridge" was placed on a billboard near Hollister's crossing.

According to the Missouri Ethics Commission:

Elected Local Government Official Lobbyist
An elected local government official lobbyist is any natural person employed specifically for the purpose of attempting to influence any action by a local government official elected in a county, city, town, or village with an annual operating budget of over ten million dollars.

Later this week we'll be covering new plans the White River Valley Historical Society has for a large chunk of the %90 million dollars.

Taney County voters will choose if they want to write a 90 million dollar blank to the government on Nov. 6th.

Al-Jezeera has more integrity than Branson Area Publications

At the bottom of this post their are links to three different news outlets code of ethics.
For two years we've challenged regional newspapers to adopt a code of ethics. For the most part, we've done this in a nice way - however, in light of Branson Mediagate we want to remind tax lobbyists - funneling money into their own pockets - posing as journalists that "here in America" we like democracy and our information sources bribe free.
Blatant disregard for universally accepted journalism standards is why one Taney County newspaper has become the laughing stock of Jefferson City.
A study of ethical standards demanded by news outlets reveals Branson ranks behind Al-Jezeera.
Of the three posted below Gannett writers are held to the highest standard.

Taney County Proposition A & Branson Mediagate

Fact: Branson correspondents Vonda Sheets and Donna Clevenger serve as members of the White River Valley Historic Society Board of Directors. Sheets corresponds for Ozark Mountain Newspapers and Clevenger for Branson Daily News. They are the only reports consistently covering the governmental body.

Fact: Clevenger and Sheets were negotiating for a tax on behalf of the White River Valley Historical Society before correspondence ensued through their publishers. The tax proposal changed when the county leaders decided the Taney County "bridge issue" needed to be addressed. The tax rate proposed doubled twice and will be placed on the November ballot as 1/2 cent economic development tax.

Fact
: Clevenger and Sheets have written persuasive arguments attempting to sway the public to pass Proposition A. One of the articles begins with "will help so many people" and "you wouldn't have to sacrifice chocolate". Neither article disclosed their involvement with the organization.

Fact
: Clevenger and Sheets have an ever evolving plan for the White River Valley Historical Society to build a facility with estimates as high as $20 million. A summary of the plans was erased after questions arose.

Fact
: Proposition A brings a $90 million open check to three leaders in Taney County without specific earmarks. Another 10 will make millions.

Fact
: Proposition A funds are being lobbied for by the White River Valley Historical Society and the two aforementioned journalists continue to use the local newspapers as a marketing vehicle for their private organization.

Questions:
Do you think Vonda Sheets and Donna Clevenger are bad people?

No, both are excellent advocate journalists with strong beliefs. It's my opinion that they really believe tax payer dollars - in the millions - should be used to restore cemeteries and to build a visitor's center for the White River Valley Historical Society - so much so - they should have removed themselves from corresponding on the topic. I have accused them of benefiting financially from a tax-payer funding venture they're endorsing - which is true - and why I'm not being sued for making such statements.
I question their ability to discuss economic issues and believe they are biased sources who have failed to follow the Journalistic Code of Ethics which would have safeguarded them from even the perception of wrong doing.

Do you think Leo Combs is a bad man?

No, but I also believe it's possible for some very wealthy men to come up with bad ideas - which is how I view the tax - a bad idea at the wrong time. By all accounts, Combs is a generous man but not all his ideas have panned out well. Building alliances with members of the press was a good idea on Combs part. Savvy. This type of relationship should be shunned by the members of the press who we hold accountable.

What about the Branson Mayor, didn't she serve on the Chamber board and the board of alderman?

Yes, she resigned from the board recently, however no unusual moves were made (i.e. asking alderman to dish out an extra 90 million for the chamber).

What do you think is a good remedy?

Due to the nature of the mistake an apology would be a good start and an addition to every story they write on the piece - "and millions in funds will go to a private organization whose funds I control" - on every story the two reporters involved in Mediagate pen.

White River Valley Historical Society to purchase 100 Acre Compound

Shenanigans. We're sending in the women to do the job 10 men running the presses at two Branson Newspapers can't seem to do.

Keep the White River Valley Historical Society in-line.

Watch the Women's Republicans take on Presiding Taney County Commissioner Chuck Pennel Thursday night. Paid "unregistered lobbyists" for the White River Valley Historical Society were rejected - the group wants to ask real questions and get real answers. The group wants to ask an official representative - with particular interest in the 100 Acre complex. Tax proponents - Branson Daily News correspondent Donna Clevenger and Ozark Mountain Newspaper correspondent Vonda Sheets are lobbying to funnel millions of dollars to the group they serve as board members on - the White River Valley Historical Society.

Currently, the 90 million dollar tax being proposed hasn't been "specifically earmarked."

$80 million Dollar Tax Scam And a Beer

I wrote a piece recently which detailed a dirty deal between a corrupt reporter and an Eastern Taney County Multi-Millionaire.

The millionaire has a hobby he thinks the citizens of Taney County should finance.

The beer was more important to one of our readers than the violation of public trust the journalism community and the newspaper they represent endure.

I would rather our journalists pull a Marion Barry with politicians then negotiate raising taxes against the citizens best interest and lie about it on the front page of the newspaper.

---
Marion Barry was the Mayor of Washington D.C. he was found smoking crack cocaine - multiple times and re-elected multiple times thereafter.

Historic Downtown Branson Business Owners Association Meets Tonight

The Historic Downtown Branson Business Owners Association will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in downtown Branson.

Reporters covering the meeting might have to endure threats from White River Valley Historical Society representatives not interested in maintaining regional history with integrity(we know we did ).

It would be nice, if one of you had the courage to cover the people in the community that are taking matters into their own hands and trying to make a difference.

These people have been fighting hard to promote downtown and keep their businesses afloat. It would be nice if you acknowledged what they've achieved on a shoestring budget.

True Grassroots.

Inbreeding, Ancestral Worship and Racism - Editorial

Ancestral worship, racism and inbreeding go hand in hand.

Anthropologists will tell you all civilizations, in their primitive forms worshiped their ancestors. The Egyptians, for instance, built temples to store their dead (pyramids). They say Abraham, the father of Judaism. partook in ancestral worship as well until he was directed by "One God" who demanded the practice be changed.

Historian Gaye Lisby addressed in the "Spirtual History of Ozark and the Land of the Osage" that inbreeding was the only way to keep the bloodline pure.

-------------------------------------

In other words, in order to retain the Native American Tribes racist philosophies they had to inbreed. According to the Lisby model, some pagan practices still exist
Recently, a teacher and single mother who taught in Bradleyville for two years was fired because a graduate of the high school moved back into town. The progress reports from the Bradleyville school would lead one to believe this was an excellent teacher.
The school fired the single mother for no apparent reason except for the fact her bloodline didn't descend from the same place. Her hard work meant nothing in light of the racism practiced in the community.
The White River Historical Society is by nature and practice an organization that promotes racism in our community. Though they don't practice racism towards a traditional group like Blacks or Mexicans specifically - they have a smaller group they believe is superior. In fact, they believe a "temple to their ancestors" should be built at a cost to the poor.
As for the woman fired due to the racist practices of some of our Eastern Taney County powers, she'll have to pay 50 dollars a month to build a temple to her oppressors - to build a temple to their dead.
Yes - Proposition A will cost over 50 dollars a month to Taney County residents living in poverty.
Taney County Tax Lobbyist Vonda Sheets likes to brag about how long her family has lived here. I know my family history. As it turns out, we've been here far longer than hers. Only difference, ours is a little less inbred.
We're back - We're fixing the errors of our past - not worshiping ourselves nor celebrating our follies - neither should you.

Branson reporting - What it should be vs. What it is -

When you walk into the room they should be a little bit nervous, share their minds and open up their documents.

Instead, they give you a hug and open up their pocketbooks.
