Barry Williams aka Greg Brady Visits St. Louis Children's Hospital

Press Release - Branson, MO.  – Barry B Williams Enterprises, Inc. announced today that Barry Williams, aka the real Greg Brady visited St. Louis Children’s Hospital over the weekend.

Last year, five year old, Make-A-Wish Missouri child, Violet, visited Branson for an Ozark Mountain Christmas to make her wish come true.  Her wish, to visit Branson and meet “Greg Brady.”   “I would love to meet the real Greg, the one with the curly hair,” said Violet.

Violet originally underwent emergency surgery to remove a life-threating brain tumor located at the base of her cerebellum.  Although her recovery has been remarkable, she was back in the hospital for additional brain surgery on Wednesday.  While recuperating at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Barry Williams went to visit her.

“Violet holds a special place in my heart and if I can help any child with a speedy recovery, then the trip was well worth it.  It’s all about bringing hope, strength and joy into the lives of children,” said Barry Williams.

St. Louis Children's Hospital has provided specialized care for children for more than 125 years. The hospital is affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine, ranked the number four medical school in the country by US News & World Report. In 2012, St. Louis Children’s Hospital again made the elite US News & World Report Honor Roll of the nation’s Best Pediatric Hospitals, in additional to receiving Magnet re-designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the nation’s highest honor for nursing excellence. In 2009, Parents magazine ranked St. Louis Children's Hospital number five in the nation. St. Louis Children's Hospital is a member of BJC HealthCare.  For more information visitstlouischildrens.org; or visit us @STLChildrens on Facebook and Twitter.

Nelly to Perform in Branson - Mayor's censorship efforts waning

The Associated Press ran an announcement that Nelly will be performing at the Grand Palace much to the dismay of Branson politicos. The outdoor concert is slated for an Aug 21st appearance.

For locals not invested in the handful of private businesses subsidized by millions in tax payer funds - including the mayor's theater - new business is a good thing.

For the mayor, new development and new venues , though good for the overall economy threatens to cannibalize a handful of private businesses who have heavy handed control over millions in tax dollars funneled to a small group of businesses that haven't generated new revenue for decades.

Presley's partner in crime, KY3/KSPR ran a false report last week overstating by millions, debt incurred by the Branson Landing development. The intentional misrepresentation to the public was shadowed by a 5 year TIFF report that revealed the Branson Landing and Branson Hills have generated substantial revenue and aren't cannibalizing current business districts. The misrepresentation was based upon a bond called Branson Landing 2003A. The debt includes land purchases, a convention center and downtown infrastructure, much of which occured before HCW's Branson Landing was established. For over two years KY3 and KSPR have run only "Presley approved" stories instead of sending reporters to cover the facts of the administrations actions. Proving they can do a good job when present, the KY3/KSPR corporate press did an excellent job covering a standoff last week. Unfortunately the trend hasn't continued.

Only one meeting has been attending by the media corporation in two years; but several stories aimed at harming businesses in competition with Presley have run over the past two weeks.

With the help of KY3/KSPR, Branson's history is currently being rewritten to exclude the California blood that brought Branson into the national spotlight. Public airways contracted to Branson's top politician have allowed a "focumentary" to air that claims the Andy Williams interview that brought Branson into the national spotlight focuses heavily on "The Presley Theater".  The "documentary' style propaganda piece which runs every half hour doesn't even mention Andy Williams who was written out of the story. Under the contract, Branson's mayor has exclusive control over what is published on the television station.

When the national publication Billboard scheduled an event in Branson, Presley and city alderman expressed concerns over what type of music might be played in Branson. Hip-hop was specifically frowned upon enciting some alderman to mock the art-form.

Nelly's arrival to Branson signifies a regression of Presley's Kremlin style grip on Branson's economy. Currently, local businesses have to get special permission from planning and zoning if they want to extend their business hours and a massive utility rate increase is in the works to increase marketing funding for the theater business which includes the mayor's personal venture. The rate increase will serve as a tax on hotels and restaurants.

Two studies aimed at propping up the theaters as the exclusive source of tourism have backfired. One study conducted by the Branson Chamber of Commerce revealed  more people were coming to the Branson Landing than all of Branson's theaters combined and while an additional 15 million in special taxes have been spent Branson's theaters are competing for a waning piece of the "tourism pie". The second study which hasn't been covered by regional press was released in the 5 year TIF meeting and shows Branson's 5 years of record revenue haven't been the result of Branson's traditional theaters but rather a stimulus generated by Branson's new offerings - Branson Landing and Branson Hills.

The Grand Palace has had it's own vein of controversy as Branson's former mayor publicly criticized  the rowdy crowds generated by a tour of 80's hair bands before the theater closed.

While the mayor's theater hasn't generated new revenue for Branson in a decade, the wheels of change have brought new revenue in contrast to the national trend known as the "Great Recession".  The flood of income.

All the mayor's best efforts to thwart a free market economy are in vain and while local shows debate the purity of old country vs new country a new crowd of tourists will arrive - this time with a version of "Country Grammer' that hasn't yet appeared in a Branson venue.

BRANSON, Mo. (AP) -- Branson will expand its musical offerings when hip-hop artist and rapper Nelly performs at an open-air concert on Aug. 21.

The concert will be part of the reopening of the Grand Palace, which has been closed for renovations. Nelly, a native of St. Louis, will perform in the music venue's rear parking lot because of continuing construction inside the building.

Paul Dunn, manager of the Grand Palace, says Nelly's show will be the first hip-hop concert performed in Branson. Dunn tells KSPR that he plans to bring a wider variety of new, famous artists to the resort town, which is generally known for its country, bluegrass and gospel shows.

Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes Jr., is a Grammy award winner who has had hits such as "Country Grammar," "Dilemma," and "Hot in Here."

China's Official Communist Press Brags - China has taken over the White House (Theater in Branson, MO)

The official Chinese government's communist press made an announcement last week boasting they've taken over the White House, "not in Washington D.C. but in Branson, Missouri."

According to the Chinese Press, the White House theater was purchased by a company titled China Heaven Creation International Preforming Arts Company. The release noted the White House Theater Deal was worth 3.54 million marking the first time a Chinese company has ever purchased a theater in the United States.

The parent company, China Travel International Investment Hong Kong Limited,, previously owned a $100 million theme park in Florida which flopped, eventually closing after a ten year run from 1993-2003.

The first show, "The Legend of KungFu" will open on May 1st at the theater whose design replicates the White House and prior to the purchase featured patriotic shows. The facade and photos of American Presidents will remain in the entryway of the theater.

The Chinese Communist Government's Official Portal featured the story on December 15th

Roy Rogers Museum Closing - Announcement

Special Announcement from Roy Rogers Jr.

I have been personally agonizing over how to start this letter. I guess I will start by saying thank you. Thank you for the years of love, support, prayers and loyalty to the Rogers Family. You, the fans, and our Board of Directors, are the ones who have kept our family's museum going for over 42 years. It has been a wonderful ride. After millions of visitors and countless stories of what Roy and Dale have meant to you, the Board of Directors have voted to close our doors of the Museum at the end of 2009. This has not been an easy decision. Many very emotional and financial issues have been addressed by all of us, as you can well imagine.

The decision to close the Museum has come after two years of steady decline in visitors to the Museum. A lot of factors have made our decision for us. The economy for one, people are just not traveling as much. Dad's fans are getting older, and concerned about their retirement funds. Everyone is concerned about their future in this present economy. Secondly, with our high fiscal obligations we cannot continue to accumulate debt to keep the doors open. This situation is one I have not wanted to happen. Dad always said- “If the museum starts costing you money, then liquidate everything and move on.” Myself and my family have tried to hold together the Museum and collection for over 15 years, so it is very difficult to think that it will all be gone soon.

What will happen to Roy Rogers, Jr and his family? For those of you that have heard I am retiring, nothing could be farther from the truth. My company, Golden Stallion, and its show tribute to Roy and Dale, will continue. I plan on taking the show to another venue in Branson. We are looking for space now. The show will also be available to travel around the country and take the message of Roy and Dale wherever we travel. I feel that this country needs the message that Roy and Dale always put forth, not only in their professional lives, but in their private lives as well.

The Museum's last day of operation will be December 12th. We want everyone to have the opportunity to visit the Museum one last time to see the collection in its entirety. This will be your last chance to see Roy and Dale's collection. Tell your friends and encourage them to come, before we close. This will be your final chance!!

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Remember, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans will live forever in our hearts and minds, and will continue to ride across the silver screen through their movies. Every time you think of Roy and Dale, that warm feeling you have always felt, will always return.

Watch our website for further announcements and special dates.

I leave you all with Dad's favorite saying- Good bye, Good luck, and may the good Lord take a likin' to ya! See you in Branson, or on the road.

Love to all of you!
Happy Trails.
Dusty and Family

Black Jesus of Branson

The interview posted above is of artist and vocalist James Loveless who plays Jesus in the musical "Isle of Dreams" at the Hot Hits Theater in downtown Branson.
The play was written by African American playwright/composer Michael O'Hara which according to O'Hara is as much a ministry as a business endeavor. In fact, members of the cast view their contribution of time to the production as a tithe and refer to the venture as a ministry.
During the interview, Loveless talks about his participation in the ministry, how he was cast as Jesus in the play, the effort to find a white Jesus and a tour of his artwork.

Branson became an "overnight sensation" with the national tourism industry in the 1990s and, then, it happened again after a group of local tourism leaders created a wintertime seasonal promotion known as Hot Winter Fun. It was marketed in 1994 to close the brief seasonal gap between Christmas and spring and it provides year-round activities for Branson visitors.
"The fame might have come overnight, but the success of Branson as a tourism destination certainly was not," said Ross Summers, President/CEO of the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Branson’s tourism industry was built up over many decades of hard work by local townspeople who were imaginative and practical and completely believed in this town. January and February were somewhat risky because Branson does have a winter season, but there are far more nice days in winter than ice days.
"People were coming here year-round to fish in local lakes. They were coming year-round to shop in Branson. They were coming year-round to play golf. And some folks that were coming to Branson were unaware that many of the attractions were closed for the season in the winter months.
"Every year since 1994, more businesses have opted to stay open to accommodate visitors during January and February. There are always plenty of fun things to do in Branson."
Tourists will find a calendar full of things to do such as taking in Branson shows, shopping after-Christmas sales, golfing, visiting indoor attractions and museums and fishing on the area’s three lakes.
In a national comparison, Branson is one of America’s most affordable vacation destinations and because many locations offer discounts during the winter months, Hot Winter Fun is a good time to visit and very economical.
"Escaping to Branson after the holidays is both relaxing and entertaining. The easy pace, combined with so many choices for fun, makes a visit to Branson during Hot Winter Fun the perfect escape," said Lynn Berry, public relations director for the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Convention & Visitors Bureau.
"Hot Winter Fun has proven to be very successful. Over the past 14 years, visitor numbers have increased during these winter months. Many folks have discovered that they can find a great vacation here any time of the year," said Summers.
Evie Mohrfeld, travel writer for the Post-Dispatch of Rochester, Minn., echoed this sentiment. She wrote, "Visiting Branson… We realized how the area has become a year-round tourist attraction. It’s totally family-friendly with many new shows and attractions always popping up. It’s a safe haven, which is the reason so many choose to live in this Midwest area… Re-visits to Branson are a new experience any season and every year."
For tickets the Big Show call 417-335-8080

Forget these words - remember this picture.
As reporters we seek truth above all else, at least if we're doing our job correctly. You'll notice we post home-made videos, pictures and text to tell the stories and share the history of our community. Each story is different but photos are my favorite capturing the spirit of a moment - exchangeable for a thousand words .
The picture you above is of the future Ambrus Presley. She's gazing at the family she'll soon be joining as wife of John Presley, a talented piano player and member of the third generation of Presley talent.
As I was shooting photos of the Presley's 40th anniversary celebration I caught Ambrus in this proud gaze - a look that reminded me of every childhood crush in days past when I was able to survive on good looks and boyish charm.
The marriage of John and Ambrus ensures another generation of the Presley's legacy in Branson.
Cheers to Branson's first family - to John - to Ambrus - and to all of us in Branson - we celebrate with you!

Ticketmaster Correction

A representative from Ticketmaster clarified their ticket resale policy this afternoon in response to the post "Ticketmaster wins big in Missouri".

Brian Cameron, marketing manager for Ticketmaster's operations in St. Louis and Branson said:

I wanted to reach out to address a portion of your recent blog about Ticketmaster’s efforts in the secondary market: Your piece ended saying “The resale market will allow the company to sell tickets they aren't currently brokering.” This is not actually the case.
Since Ticketmaster is dedicated to providing fans a safe, secure and 100% legitimate resale marketplace, only tickets purchased initially through Ticketmaster may be resold via TicketExchange.

Ticketmaster Wins Big in Missouri

Ticketmaster's win in Missouri is all the buzz. As part of the economic development package that passed through Missouri's Senate last week an initiative championed by Ticketmaster legalized ticket scalping.
The law overrides local ordinances that regulate ticket sales. Ticketmaster has invested heavily in Internet commerce applications for the secondary ticket market. The St. Louis Dispatch Jefferson City Bureau Chief Virginia Young was the first to call foul play noting Andy Blunt, Governor Matt Blunts Brother, lobbies on behalf of Ticketmaster.

The article states the St. Louis Rams pushed for the amendment.

Ticketmaster's web presence in Branson is nearing completion with the blessing and assistance of the League of Theaters, a "guild" for theater owners.

The legislation will have a significant impact in the Branson market and will give Ticketmaster both an edge and reason to invest more heavily. The resale market will allow the company to sell tickets they aren't currently brokering.
